Book publisher Penguin Random House says a pirated PDF of Andre de Ruiter’s The Truth About Power is being distributed illegally.

In a statement released by Penguin Random House, it said it was shocked that the book was being distributed on WhatsApp Messenger.

“Distribution of pirated copies infringes both our copyright and the author’s copyright, and is illegal under the Copyright Act of 1976.”

We also want to make it clear to the public that, according to the book publisher, the only way to legally obtain an e-book is to purchase it from an e-book retailer or borrow it from an authorized e-book library.

It states that copying or distributing any pirated e-book, or providing any link to a pirated e-book, is illegal.

“We will take legal action against individuals who distribute pirated copies, which may include criminal complaints after we have gathered all necessary information.

“De Ruyter’s response to learning about the stolen e-book was, “Anything related to Eskom in South Africa seems to be vulnerable to theft.

The publishers thanked those who took the stand to cancel the pirated copy and bought the book or legal e-book instead.
