New Mid County business ready to fill void for seniors in need – Port Arthur News

PORT NECHES – Crystal Jordan, executive director of the Port Neches Chamber of Commerce, believes that Kim Tweedle has brought business to the city.

Advocates House “is an assisted living facility that provides compassionate, comfortable and personalized care in an intimate setting,” Jordan said, adding that the facility offers around-the-clock in-home care.

“I think there’s a real need for something of that nature,” Jordan said of the business.

Located at 2625 Magnolia Street in Port Neches, the business fits the bill between assisted living and a nursing home.

Services

Advocates House provides 24/7 care in a home setting. They have two private rooms, two rooms with two beds and one with three beds. The ratio is one caregiver to three patients. That’s more personal than a nursing home ratio where a staff member has 13-15 patients per shift to care for.

“You really get 24-hour care here at a very reduced price,” says Tweedle, owner and CEO.

All food, laundry and essential items are covered for the residents of Advocates House except medicine.

The home is equipped with sprinklers and an alarm, and doors open up to 36 inches to accommodate wheelchairs. The bathroom complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The facility is for people who cannot stay alone in an assisted living facility because they need help with things like cooking or self-care.

Tweedle is originally from Port Arthur but has been in Houston for over 35 years. In the year She opened a caregiving agency in 2010 and is licensed in Jefferson, Hardin and Orange counties.
