Netradin is using advanced computer vision technology to build the safer and smarter roads of tomorrow. The startup harnesses the power of computer vision and edge computing to transform the modern transportation ecosystem. Organizations trust Netradin to build a positive, safe and driver-focused culture to take their business to the next level.
The startup has successfully grown to reach 1,000+ ships, across multiple industries, including some of the world’s largest fleets. The company has emerged as one of the leading fleet security platforms with annual revenue growth of over 300% in 2019 and the same in 2020.
Tech Panda Durgadutt Nedungadi, Vice President of India and Global Business at Netradin, spoke about how to use computer vision and edge computing to find safer routes.
In the year Since its inception in 2015, observing a gap in the industry, Netradin has harnessed the power of computer vision and edge computing to revolutionize the modern transportation ecosystem.
“Today we live in an era where many lives are lost on the roads. Unfortunately, a large number of these accidents are caused by drivers who are distracted, overtired, or have bad driving behavior. Our aim is to use vision-based AI/ML to improve driving behaviour, reduce accident rates and save lives on the road,” he said.
The growing need to prioritize driver safety without compromising on cost or efficiency has led to the implementation of smart camera-based fleet management systems.
“Since its inception in 2015, Netradin has harnessed the power of computer vision and edge computing to revolutionize the modern transportation ecosystem as we look at the gap in the industry. By developing a data-based prevention and risk assessment system for driving safely on the roads, today’s commercial fleet operations We are a category leader.
What do they do?
Netradin calls itself an industry leader in fleet safety solutions that instantly improve driver behavior and fleet performance, and set the standard for driving commercial vehicles. The startup collects and analyzes data points and meaningful data, so customers can improve retention, increase profitability, improve security and enable end-to-end transparency.
“At Netradin, a world-class team of scientists and technologists have come together to create end-to-end driver security solutions using on-device edge computing, AI, ML and sophisticated cloud technology. The result of our joint efforts is a patent-pending Made in India device – Driveri®,” Nedungadi proudly said. He said.
Driveri® is a vision-based advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that uses external cameras to analyze the driving of the vehicle against external conditions and an internal camera that monitors the driver’s behavior. The system captures and records various parameters related to the driver’s driving habits and provides real-time feedback to the driver about potential incidents.
The system uses a high-end processor and algorithms to do two things – evaluate drivers one-time and provide real-time alerts via voice messages. The second – send this information along with the video to fleet managers who use it to train or motivate drivers, for each alert. The system assigns points based on driving performance which helps the manager to scientifically decide the incentives.
Driveri®: An end-to-end IoT system
Netradin’s core tool, the Driveri® platform, is an end-to-end IoT system. It includes an intelligent mobile video analytics tool and a robust cloud-based flight safety management center. The capabilities of the device include the following features:
- Dedicated AI deep learning TeraFLOP processor
- A patent-pending four-camera video system provides the driver’s view with a 360-degree quad-HD field of view.
- High data bandwidth, low latency 4G LTE cellular module with global coverage footprint
Recently, the company launched the next-gen extension of Driveri®, Driver•iHubX, which retains the previous advanced features and functions, as well as providing additional storage to accommodate up to four external camera views.
“With the Driveri device itself, we continue to innovate with features such as activation, access to external videos in standby mode, and GPIO connectivity to vehicle sensors for vehicle recording,” explains Nedungadi.
Origin and inspiration.
The startup was born when the founders, Avnesh Agrawal and David Julian were inspired by the vision to use their deep knowledge and extensive experience in AI and Computer Vision to solve road and driver safety issues around the world.
Our mission is a strong commitment and drive to create a safer world for all ships.
“The perceived huge demand gap for advanced AI and vision based secure telematics systems led us to launch Netradi. Our mission is a strong commitment and drive to create a safer world for all ships,” recalls Nedungadi.
Netradine USP
Netradine has developed a self-learning advanced telematics system for transit safety that activates audio alerts for drivers, transmits data to the administrator in real-time, and rewards drivers based on driving performance. The tool assesses 21+ unsafe driving parameters such as drowsiness, texting, hard braking, etc.
It generates audio alerts that notify drivers in real-time, prompting them to adjust their driving behavior, thereby reducing the incidence of accidents.
We have established ourselves as a category-defining leader with our most advanced vision-based driver safety systems. We have practically launched a demand for space focused on road accident/accident prevention rather than after investigation.
“Most importantly, Netradin is manufacturing this high-performance device in India for the world,” Nedungadi said.
“We have established ourselves as a category-defining leader based on our most advanced vision of driver safety systems. We have launched a space-based demand focused on road accidents/accident prevention, not post-diagnosis,” he added.
Development history
To date Netradin has raised $197.5 million with major investors being Reliance, Microsoft Corp, Point72, Hyundai and Softbank.
The monetization model is a subscription model that includes the benefits of hardware, connectivity and cloud-based services for a per-device/per-month fee.
“From a revenue perspective, we have grown our revenue by over 300% every year for the last three years. We crossed INR 500 crore annual recurring revenue earlier this year and are on track to cross INR 1000 crore ARR by the end of CY22,” Nedungadi explained.
To share the scale of our work – Driveri® has captured, processed and analyzed more than five billion miles of driving and continues to collect more than one billion minutes each month. This increases the amount of processing and training the system can handle, thus making it smarter and Resistant than any other tool out there
It further informed that its clients include commercial vessel owners/operators such as Munich Re, Titan Cargo, Shah Truck, Grand Island Express, one of the largest oil and gas MNCs operating in India and a prominent Indian money management. A company that operates over 1500 ATM top-up and cash vehicles, several school bus operators and some of the largest logistics companies in the world.
“We have more than 1,400 customers worldwide. To share the scale of our work—Driveri® has captured, processed and analyzed more than five billion miles of driving and continues to collect more than one billion minutes each month. This highlights the scale and training the system endures, making it smarter than any other device and It makes it strong.
Future plans
Netradin has big plans for the future.
“For the next 10+ years, we believe that the majority of vehicles on the road will be driven by humans. Therefore, technological advances that help drivers reduce accidents remain our primary focus. The goal is to reach zero accidents, although we have a long way to go before we get there,” says Nedungadi.
Currently, their core business is focused on aftermarket sales. But with a handful of OEMs working to integrate their technology directly into new commercial vehicles, this trend will continue to grow.
We believe that the majority of vehicles on the road for the next 10+ years will be driven by humans. Therefore, technological advances that assist drivers in reducing risk continue to be our primary focus.
From a market perspective, the global market size for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) is expected to grow from US$27 billion in 2020 to US$58 billion in 2028, at a CAGR of 11.4%.
“We’re looking at global expansion,” he said, adding that after a few years in the United States and India, the startup will launch in Australia, New Zealand and England in 2022.
Plans are set to launch in Canada, Mexico and several countries in Europe and Asia over the next 12 months.
