Nando’s ‘super hot’ fashion drop includes clothes that respond to heat

Anyone for a cheeky Nando’s? The latest food joint to jump on the fashion bandwagon, South Africa’s Spicy Chicken Donuts, has launched its new “Extra Hot” clothing line – meaning peri-peri lovers can proudly display their favorite spice on their heat-friendly adornments.

Although the amount of spice on offer at Nando’s often seems to inspire wild and slightly irrational competition – lemon and herb bashing can be a widespread affair, for example – there’s no competitive nonsense here. All PERi-ometer levels are counted. Nostalgic to the height of ’90s fashion (high-end T-shirts, anyone?), Chicken Coop’s new socks, bucket hats, jumpers and long and short tops are all dyed with heat-responsive thermo-chromatic dyes and gradually change color as the temperature rises. You might want to watch out for this the next time you slather your food in peri-peri sauce.

The new Extra Hot line is priced at £15 (gets you a pair of socks) and £50 for a sweatshirt. The entire range can be picked up from the Nando’s website, and each item is to be chosen from five different “heat level” options – Planish, Lemon & Herb, Medium, Hot and Extra Hot. Shaping the set? Along with fast-paced rapper Nico B, TikTokers Jack Joseph and Madeline RG and footy Youtuber TBJZL, Nando’s has recruited 2FM radio DJ Tara Kumar.

The restaurant chain’s new foray into the fashion world puts them in good company. Earlier this year, Newcastle’s best bakery chain Greggs teamed up with Primark to launch a croc-laden collaboration. Meanwhile, LIDL’s bold own brand trainers were last autumn’s ‘It’ shoe surprise. We hope it’s a trend that will continue to fly the flag for your favorite high street venue. You have to admit that the Nando’s bucket hat pairs beautifully with the Claire’s Accessories logo hoodie.
