Young people visit Lake Charles

Matt Young He was recently hired as Director of Association Sales at Visit Lake Charles, where he focused on convention sales and growing group operations to grow the local economy. He joins the team after serving as Public Information Officer and most recently Director of Cultural Affairs for the Lake Charles Mayor’s Office.

Young has extensive experience in government relations, marketing, event planning and facility management. During his time in Lake Charles, Young served under two mayoral administrations, and organized events such as Downtown at Sundown and the Christmas Festival on the Lake. He has coordinated traveling exhibits at the historic City Hall and managed the Central School Arts and Cultural Center.

A native of southwest Louisiana, Young returned to the state in 2009 to serve as executive director of the Arts and Humanities Council of Southwest Louisiana. Under Young’s leadership, the Chamber launched the first Live at the Lakefront Concert Series, an event that has continued to grow over the years as a signature event for the spring.

Young is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in communications, political science and public relations. He has volunteered for the community in numerous capacities with the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation, the American Cancer Society, the Junior League of Lake Charles and the Calcasieu Parish Police Department.

Salvador received a science award

Former Texas A&M nutrition student and registered dietitian Ana SalvadorPh.D., College Station, was recently awarded a Distinguished Scientist Award from the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Salvador In 2021, she earned a doctorate in nutrition from the Department of Nutrition in the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. From 2021 to now, she has been a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Medicine at Texas A&M School of Medicine. of medicine. She also works as a registered dietitian for Aramark Healthcare assigned to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center, College Station.

She did her graduate work under the supervision of David Threadgill, PhD, University Distinguished Professor, Tom and Jean McMullin Chair of Genetics and Chair of the Department of Nutrition, Bryan-College Station.

The Distinguished Scientist Award honors a Texas nutritionist who has made outstanding and significant contributions to the field of dietetics, nutrition, food science or related sciences.

“I’ve known Anna since her interest in my research lab during her senior year at McNeese,” Threadgill said. “I knew right away that Anna was an amazing student. She showed her potential and grew into a brilliant scientist. She is the most talented trainee I have had in my lab over the past 25 years.
