Sobyanin said companies that do not normally work on weekends should remain closed the following week while they continue to pay employees.

Food courts and children’s play areas in shopping malls will also have to close for a week from Sunday and restaurants and bars must limit takeaway service from 11am to 6pm.

Russia’s vaccination has reached 18 million doses, as Vladimir Putin, the country’s president, called for a higher jab rate.

People are “suspicious of all these procedures,” he said. “It’s a common occurrence.”
