MISSOULA – Believe it or not, it’s time for students to return to the University of Montana for the upcoming fall semester.
The campus will soon be buzzing again, affecting businesses in the University District.
“Everyone is so incredibly beautiful and we’re just as happy to be here as we are,” said Beth Guerlin, founder and owner of Tandem Bakery Cafe.
Guerlain says she’s still getting the lay of the land after moving into the business’s first permanent location on Helen Street earlier this year.
“A lot of people tell us that there are a lot of good memories in this building. I’m very lucky to be a part of that,” she told MTN News.
Because it’s so close to the University of Montana, Guerlain is anticipating the late summer rush as students arrive for fall classes.
“The way our business goes with the university calendar is something we’re still learning,” Guerlin said.
“The academic calendar is printed below, and I’m trying to keep up with how business is going,” she added.
Staff member Maddie Morgan has seen a lot of foot traffic from campus since it opened last spring semester.
“Between classes, every time they had a break, there would be a huge influx of students. I’d see a lot of professors coming in, too,” Morgan said.
Tandem Bakery Cafe will be extending its hours starting Aug. 22, and Guerlin said they’re looking forward to bringing in more students.
“We like to have students and teachers. It’s possible to walk from the university, so we want people to come here and study or grab a meal between classes. We want it to be a university place for that,” Gherlein concluded.
