The Metro Detroit fashion designer has shown her work at New York Fashion Week, participated in more than 50 fashion shows and is now gearing up to compete in an international art competition.
Fashion designer Cheryl Zemke’s submission has been accepted into the Artist Awards competition in Grand Rapids. During the competition, Zemke will display a three-part installation celebrating artists from around the world. The piece that inspired Zemke’s collection is called “Sunflower Ghosts of Ukraine.” The dress design includes more than 580 sunflowers and other flowers. It took Zemke about two months to complete the dress. Zemke’s artwork installation is on display at the JW Marriott Grand Rapids. The ArtPrize competition runs from September 15th to October 2nd.
Appearing on “Live on the D,” Zemke also highlighted some of her other designs, including a dress that debuted at New York Fashion Week in September 2021. The bottom of the dress is hand-embroidered with the Detroit skyline.
