Siboni got a first glimpse of what would become mermaidcore at Versace’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection, where models wore dresses printed with seashells and starfish. One of Siboni’s absolute favorite interpretations comes from the label Bahia Maria. “They have a very literal shell edge — and I think it’s fun to take that literally sometimes when you’re on vacation,” she says.
Haute Halters
Not everyone wants to go full Ariel with a shell tip. Siboni recommends knotted tops and skirts to get a subtle nod to everything mermaid. They’re seasonal in nature and lean towards a wider aesthetic with greens, blues and iridescent fabrics.
Crochet all day
The crochet resurgence isn’t going anywhere in 2023. Instead, Siboni tells us, designers are building on the craft’s momentum with matching crochet sets and accessories to get us through the holidays next year. In the upcoming collections, the vibe is nautical rather than Bohemian with fishnet knots and sea-inspired colors; You can already dip a toe into the view on the pieces above.
