Class is back in session, even at medical and health centers like Mercy Health – Lorain, according to a news release.
Mercy Health – Lorain welcomed its 2023 Project SEARCH class the week beginning Aug. 21, the release said.
Project SEARCH is a program that offers high school aged students with disabilities the opportunity to receive on the job training through total workplace immersion in the hospital environment, according to the release.
The interns will begin their year with classroom instruction and training before they begin their internship rotations within the hospital setting.
This gives them the opportunity for real life work experience in hopes of preparing them for and helping them find fulfilling and productive jobs after high school, according to the release.
It is targeted for students whose main goal is competitive employment.
The program builds essential job-specific and employability skills needed to gain and maintain meaningful employment, lead productive lives and become integrated in an adult work environment.
The program integrates career exploration with a variety of worksite experiences, skill levels and related coursework.
Through this unique employer-led training program, both intensive classroom and skills training will occur in the employment setting.
Mercy Health – Lorain works with several community partners to facilitate the Project SEARCH program, the release said.
The community partners include the Education Service Center of Lorain County and UCP of Greater Cleveland.
Since launching in August 2012, more than 81% of Mercy Health – Lorain’s interns found employment within their first year of graduation, including some who were hired for roles within the health system, according to the release.
