MARIETTA — Memorial Health System announced that during this year’s Month of Giving supporting Hunger Solutions Mid-Ohio Valley(MOV) $68,519.69 was raised through donations and fundraising efforts throughout the month of March, a press release reported.

The release said this amount purchases over 18,000 boxes of food at local food pantries, which equals up to 648,000 meals.

“I am so proud of the Memorial Health System for always pulling together to support Hunger Solutions,” said DeeAnn Gehlauf, president of Hunger Solutions MOV and Memorial Health System vice president, business and organization development. “This year, we knocked it out of the park by surpassing our goal and surpassing what we raised last year. I want to thank all the employees who participated in the events we held during the month to raise these funds.”

The release said that during last year’s Month of Giving, held throughout the month of June 2022, Memorial Health System beat its initial goal of raising $50,000 by raising a total of $54,164.24.

“We’re proud that this year, we have exceeded even our own expectations with a total of $68,519.69,” the release said. “We cannot thank our teams within the health system enough for their dedication and care to donate fun and unique baskets for raffle, baked goods, or even vacation days to contribute to the cause.”

The release said Hunger Solutions was established in 2012 when Peoples Bank, Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta College and the law firm of Bricker & Eckler partnered together to create a community-based collaborative plan to raise awareness and help eliminate hunger throughout the region. It said Hunger Solutions supports fighting hunger for all who are experiencing food scarcity in the area.

“Hunger Solutions is very important to raise money for food pantries and nutritional education to help many families in the community,” said Cindy Hall, volunteer services and event coordinator. “I am beyond thrilled of how much we raised this year for Hunger Solutions. It was amazing how excited and supportive the employees were when we had the different activities to raise money such as bake sales, a Whit’s frozen custard bar, a 50/50 raffle and basket raffles. It was a win, win.”
