Meade and Parkville have unfinished business in the state boys basketball playoffs.

After a heartbreaking end to their seasons in the Class 4A state boys basketball semifinals last year, Meade and Parkville each returned to their lone quest this season.

Redemption, as well as a championship, is on the list for the Mustangs and Knights after they return to the 4A state final four Saturday. No. 3 Parkville defeated Prince George’s Duvall 59-49, while Meade defeated Montgomery County’s Wootton 64-53.

Broadneck’s bid to make a three-Baltimore-area team in the 4A state semifinals fell short in Montgomery County’s 67-52 loss to Gaithersburg. Jalen Carter finished with 17 points for the Bruins (17-8 overall), while Jordan Brown had 14.

The Anne Arundel County regular season champions led 23-7 after the first quarter before being unable to overcome a 12-0 opening run by the Trojans. Gaithersburg had its biggest lead in the second quarter, 33-11.

Broadneck fought back to within 44-36 in the second half, but was unable to complete what would be an impressive comeback. Mead, who won the Anne Arundel County title game, built a big early lead at home against Wootton.

Senior guard Xavion Roberson led the Mustangs (23-3) with 19 points and post Shawn Jones had a double-double of 17 points and 13 assists. John Tighe pulled down 13 rebounds.

Meade led 23-8 after the opening quarter, and 51-33 after three, punching its fourth 4A Final Four ticket since 2015. The Mustangs will play another Montgomery County school, Sherwood, on Wednesday at Blair.

Last year, Meade blew a 14-point second-half lead against Winston Churchill in the Henry A. Wise state 4A semifinals. The Mustangs recovered to take the lead late, but the Montgomery County team pulled away for a 55-50 victory.

Parkville got 15 points from Kenu Barfield, and Parkville’s Josiah Legree 3-pointer propelled the Knights to an overtime victory in the North Region 1 final. 10.

Parkville (25-1) will play Prince George’s County Wis. in Gaithersburg on Wednesday for a spot in this weekend’s 4A state finals at the University of Maryland. A year ago, the Knights lost to eventual state champion Eleanor Roosevelt of Prince George’s County in the semifinals at North Point in Charles County, ending their bid for a perfect season and first state title.
