Marilyn Foster: Travel to the Croatian Islands like the rich and famous

There are so many amazing ways to travel, but nothing is as amazing as traveling on a modern luxury yacht with no more than 36 travelers that soon feels like a family.
I love how Europe’s tall ships transport me along sophisticated waterways and I recommend that mode to anyone looking for a less stressful way to travel and see the many beautiful cities along the famous rivers. But my favorite way to travel by water is by boat. Yes, a boat.
No, I’m not rich and famous, but I did get to travel on a beautiful yacht on the Adriatic Sea with a group from our area, including then-Mayor Bob Crowell and his beautiful wife, Susan. We had the time of our lives exploring the Croatian islands and swimming in the Adriatic, and I would do it again in a heartbeat, but I have a lot of trips already planned so hopefully I’ll have to skip it on the next cruise. .
Croatia has become one of the must-see travel destinations. In many ways the coast is similar to Southern California, but it is the islands that tell the true story of this country and the only way to see the islands is by boat. It was thought that Marco Polo was born on the island of Korcula, although Venice also claimed that he was born. Korcula is known as “Little Dubrovnik” because of its magical narrow stone streets and medieval buildings. Each island has a unique site to see.
The Chamber Travel Club will travel to Croatia and its islands next October 10, flying to Dubrovnik to board the state-of-the-art MS Invictus, a luxury yacht built in 2020 that will take you to six islands on the cruise. Beach to explore famous villages such as Split, then a two-night stay in the resort town of Vodice in a four-star beach hotel on the Adriatic coast, before heading to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. One night before flying home.
A highlight for me was a visit to Diocletian’s Palace, built in the old town of Split for the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century. And while there isn’t much time spent on this tour, who wouldn’t enjoy wandering the beautiful streets of Dubrovnik, but if you want to spend some time on your own in this Game of Thrones-themed city, you can choose to leave early.
My favorite memory, however, was all of us jumping on the back of our boat to dive into the beautiful Adriatic Sea. I loved that we were right in the center of any city, allowing us to venture out on our own when we had free time to explore. Our boat was as beautiful as the private yachts docked in the harbor.
