Larimer County
County awarded $1.6 million in grants for workforce issues
Larimer County has awarded more than $1.6 million in competitive grants to help fund solutions that impact the region’s workforce challenges in terms of employment, training and skills development.
According to Xena, the target populations for the project funding include people of color, youth, workers over the age of 55, immigrants, single parents and all job seekers.
“Larimer County’s economic recovery has led to significant growth in our job market,” a county news release said. “Investing in these innovative solutions will help job seekers earn self-supporting wages and accelerate businesses’ ability to connect with skilled regional talent.”

El Pomar honors Nancy Richardson of Otter Products.
El Pomar Foundation On August 9, he honored Nancy Richardson as the 2022 recipient of the Julie Penrose Award.
Richardson is the co-founder of Otter Products LLC.
She also supports the community through the Richardson Foundation, the family’s private charity, and serves on the board of Rescue Freedom International, an organization mandated to rescue and rehabilitate women and children suffering from sexual slavery.
Richardson previously served on the Northern Regional Council of the El Pomar Foundation.
El Pomar established the Julie Penrose Award in honor of co-founder Julie Penrose. The annual award recognizes a woman from the state of Colorado who has made or is making a significant contribution to the community through dedicated leadership, involvement and service.

• The Fort Collins Grace Up Grace Project was awarded a $10,000 grant from Fort Collins Insurance. The local organization provides diapers, wipes and menstrual products to families and infants so they can live and grow with grace and dignity while addressing the root causes of social injustice. The $10,000 donation will help fund the launch of The Project’s Northern Colorado program, which supports students in their communities who are experiencing chronic poverty and would otherwise not be able to access these essential items by providing them with a three-month supply of supplies. These funds will help the Grace at Grace Projects pilot program to provide school bathrooms with equitable access to seasonal products.
• Opera Fort Collins has hired Steven Aguillo-Arbues as its new artistic director. He has worked as a conductor, voice coach, choir master, recitalist, and producer, performed as a solo and collaborative pianist throughout Spain, Italy, Peru, and the United States, and has performed in over 60 opera productions.

• The City of Windsor Economic Development announced this week that it will use a new software tool called SizeUp to help local businesses with market research and business intelligence.
