A group of local 4-H students recently had the opportunity to travel to the Eastern Shore of Maryland for some unique equine experiences.

The Sanford Saddles and Spurs 4-H Club has been trying to travel there for two years and finally made the trip earlier this month.

“They stayed at Frontier Town, where they saw a few Wild West shows.” Amanda Ongley said. “They visited the northern tip of Assateague Island, learned about the ponies on the northern tip of the island and many other things about the island.”

Even a trip to the beach was not without horse contact.

“They were able to enjoy the beach and water on the island and even see some wild ponies.” She said. “They also took a boat trip to see some ponies in the southern part of Assateague.”

But there’s no rest for the weary as club members prepare for the Warren County 4-H Horse Show later this month, as well as competition at the Warren County Fair.
