She studied biology at Vassar, but these days, Lisa Kudrow feels more like an amateur historian. Kudrow, the brain behind the TV series Genealogy, helps celebrities like Allison Janney, Billy Porter and Brooke Shields trace their family history. For example, Kudrow’s friend Courteney Cox traces her ancestry to a distant relative, William the Conqueror.
“This has always been a passion project,” Kudrow says of the show. “This has always been very important to me and I did it casually.”
The show, now in its 11th season, has featured everyone from Jason Sudeikis to Mandy Moore, Spike Lee and Sarah Jessica Parker. And, if the stars align, that list could include Kudrow’s close friends and former “Friends” co-star Jennifer Aniston. “She signed up and still wants to do it,” Kudrow says.
Now that her world has opened up, Kudrow is traveling again. Between promoting her series and exploring the world, like many of us, she makes up for lost time. Here’s what Kudrow brings to the road for more comfortable travel.

The comfort of having something to look at is high on Kudrow’s list. “If I’m going away for a long time, I bring my Apple TV box,” she says.
The fifth-generation Apple TV is on sale right now for a solid investment of less than $100. With it, you can take your favorite streaming service with you on the road in 1080p HD video. Weighing under 2 pounds, it’s perfect for slipping into your carry-on bag and setting up when you arrive at your vacation rental or hotel.

Given the recent increase in lost luggage, Kudrow is doubling down on how she packs and what she brings with her. “I love a hard-shell suitcase with four wheels,” she says. “There are no canvases to break.” The Samsonite Freeform Hardside Expandable is our best budget checked suitcase with super smooth rolling capabilities, expandable zippers and a lightweight design.
While Kudrow is a fan of hard-shell roller bags, she’s also thinking about her next bag — and it’s all about bringing an old trend back into the spotlight. “I’m thinking maybe steam trunks might be the way to go?” she says. “You just send it in advance or put it on a boat and it will arrive. And then you open your closet. I think we need to start going back there.

Kudrow is a firm believer that less is everything, which is why she’s a longtime fan of Terry’s understated plumping gloss. “I love By Terry’s lip gloss,” she says. The cult favorite lip balm has dubbed itself the “Rolls Royce of lip balms.” Not only does it soften and repair dry lips – a great remedy for the dry air on airplanes – but it also has a lovely rose scent.

Wherever she goes, Kudrow always has her favorite snack on hand. “I don’t do many short trips, but I [do] Take my McVie’s Digestives Biscuits,” she says. “It’s my favorite breakfast. I got teased once – I was at the craft service desk and they said, ‘Oh, they have tea. Oh, let me get the digestive biscuits.’
This set of three McVitie packs is perfect for keeping a batch of biscuits at home and taking another batch – or two – with you on the road. Sweet but not too sweet, McVie’s digestive biscuits are perfect for eating on their own as a dry snack or dipped in tea – they melt in your mouth.
$26 at Lolavie
Kudrow’s friend Jennifer Aniston recently launched a hair care line called Lolavie, and Kudrow says all the products stand out. “When I’m curling my hair and I don’t remember it scratching, it’s great,” she says of the detangler. “And then if you blow dry your hair, it’s the moisturizer I use.”

When it comes to listening to music or making calls, Kudrow keeps things simple. “I don’t want anything wireless in my head,” she says.
Original Apple EarPods are a hardwired alternative for the casual music listener. Don’t expect the noise-cancelling capabilities of their AirPods Pro cousins, but you can expect budget-friendly headphones for all your travels.
