This fall, Cornellians took advantage of the three-day Labor Day weekend to travel, spend time with friends and catch up on schoolwork.
Many students took advantage of the long weekend to travel outside of Ithaca. Allen Liu ’24 went to Syracuse for the Great New York State Fair, which ended this weekend.
“I went with some friends, and it was really fun,” Liu said. We saw a lot of cool animals, and I even got a prize.
Isabel Hu, 24, who visited the fair, commented on the bad weather over the weekend.
“I enjoyed the social events hosted this weekend,” Howe said. “It was raining, but it’s still a fun way to spend the day.”
In addition to visiting the state fair, Jaylin Wilson ’24 traveled to Niagara Falls, taking a weekend to pamper himself and catch up with friends.

“I caught up with a bunch of friends and had a nice spa day to myself, which was very relaxing,” Wilson said.
Tia Taylor ’25 was in Ithaca this weekend for track practice, but she also made it a priority to spend time with her friends.
“I stayed in a lot to do homework and hang out with friends,” Taylor said. “I’m a member of the Women of Color athletic team, and we’ve had a meet and greet. It was good to see familiar faces from last year and see how everyone’s winter was.

Regardless of how you spent Labor Day weekend, students agree that having an extra day off after the first two weeks of classes gives them much-needed time to relax.
“After trying to get back into the groove, it was great to have some time away from the classroom,” Wilson said. “I can finally get myself together so I’ll be ready for my class later.”
Taylor and Liu agree that the extra day off will give them a chance to better prepare for the week ahead.
“The break is much needed,” Liu said. I feel like the semester started so quickly, so the long weekend was a great opportunity to recharge and prepare myself.
Hou appreciates the extra break from classes and is ready for next week. However, she is also excited for the upcoming breaks this semester.
“I felt like the long weekend was a great opportunity to relax after the stressful first few weeks of school,” Howe said. “I’m ready to get back to my regular schedule, but I’m still looking forward to the next break.”
