Labor Day holiday travel time

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is set to enhance enforcement efforts for the 2022 Labor Day holiday travel period that begins this morning, September 2, at 6 AM and ends Monday, September 6, at 12 PM. Midnight.
Troopers will conduct high-visibility enforcement activities and safety inspections to promote safe travel and reduce fatal accidents during the Labor Day holiday travel period. Speeding, seat belt use and impaired and distracted driving will be a key focus over the holiday weekend.
In the year During the 2021 Labor Day holiday travel season, MHP investigated 146 crashes with six fatalities and made 186 DUI arrests on state and federal highway systems. MHP issued 443 citations for resident ban violations during that enforcement period.
“As we enjoy the last official holiday of the summer season, we all need to do our part to enjoy ourselves responsibly,” said Colonel Randy Ginn. “While many Mississippians will have an extra day off work, our troopers will be on the job to make safe travel a priority.”
“As many Mississippians travel to spend time with family and friends this Labor Day weekend, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Department of Public Safety encourage all drivers to do their part and practice safe and responsible driving,” said Commissioner Sean Tyndall.
