From the Village to the Westfield UTC shopping center, new businesses continue to come to the La Jolla area. There is a lot of money here.
Bay color tattoo
Offering custom tattoos in a variety of styles along with high-quality jewelry piercings, Bay Ink Tattoo opened in La Jolla Village in February at 7606 Girard Ave. Lai opened a third San Diego location.
Owned by husband-and-wife team Fabio Fontinelle and Rafaela Amaral, the La Jolla venue “brings the best artists in San Diego … many of whom specialize in black and gray realism and fine line work,” Amal said. “But we have a guest. Bay Inc. has other stores in Bay Park and Hillcrest and wanted the La Jolla location because “we offer a luxury experience … so La Jolla felt like a good fit,” Amaral said.
“We wondered how the community would receive us, but they’ve been great,” she added. “People have an image of tattoo shops full of bikers and smokers, but we’re a very family-friendly shop. We hope to change the stigma.

City Wolf Dog Deli
Grand Opening Event Recently, Dog Food Deli Urban Wolf is now open at 7703 Fay Street in the Village selling Maxota’s Raw Line dog food on site.
AJ Wechler, who co-owns the place with Gunner Williams, said the food is humane but made for dogs, and includes meat, offal, bones, fruits and vegetables.
“If your dog catches a rabbit in the wild and eats that rabbit, that’s what they’re going to do, they’re going to get meat, bones and organs and then … maybe 20 percent of the mass is fruits and vegetables. And the probiotics and enzymes that the rabbit ate, and that’s the basis for these recipes. It is,” Wechler said.
Wechsler said the La Jolla City Wolf location will soon be more human- and dog-friendly, offering grab-and-go items so people can eat lunch with their dogs.
One of the owners will always be on hand to answer questions and give tips and advice, she added.

Cup pop-up
After operating online for eight years, local beauty brand Kopari will have its first pop-up location in the Westfield UTC shopping mall at 4545 La Jolla Village Drive the first week of September.
In the year Founded in 2015 by La Jollan’s Kiana Cabell and Gigi Goldman, Kopari offers skin care products for the face and body, including sunscreen and deodorant.
“We’re beyond excited to bring Kopari back to its roots, starting with our first pop-up shop in sunny La Jolla,” said Cabell.
Kopari’s ingredients are sustainably sourced and the containers are fully recyclable, the company said.

Brixy bars
After creating a line of sunscreen and baby bottles free of the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA), skincare brand Brissy (headquartered on La Jolla Boulevard) recently launched a line of shampoo and conditioner bars that don’t come in plastic bottles.
Founder Kevin Broadwick and CEO Trey Wilcock wanted to reduce the amount of plastic waste generated by everyday products and chose shampoos, conditioners and body washes that come in bar form, the company said.
“Brixy bars were born from the idea that exceptional hair and skin care should not come in a plastic bottle,” says the company.
The products come without sulfates, parabens, phthalates or palm oil and have natural ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, argan oil and cacao seed butter.

Salt and straw will come soon
Popular ice cream maker Salt & Straw will open in Westfield UTC in mid-May.
Founded by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek, Salt & Straw collaborates with small artisans to create a menu that includes classics like Double Fold Vanilla and Sea Salt Caramel Ribbon, as well as unique creations like Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper.
