William Sawalich has led 474 consecutive laps on the PLM Tour as he watches the checkered flag wave in front of him in Saturday’s 100-lap feature at Tri County.

That smooth streak came to an abrupt and shocking end when Sawalich crashed into the outside retaining wall at Turn 4 of Jake Garcia. A result that left Garcia regretful and desperate for victory lane.

“I didn’t want to break [Sawalich] There,” Garcia said. “We were backing each other up and one of us had to roll over. That’s what happened and I’m sorry. [Sawalich]. Now we have to move on to the next one.

Garcia was slowly eating away at Savalic’s lead in the final race, eventually putting himself within striking distance of the lead.

Knowing that Garcia had a fast car, Sawalich tried to play defense to add to his fifth straight victory and inch closer to Luke Fenhouse’s lead in the PLM Tour standings despite losing at Greenville-Pickens Speedway earlier this year.

Instead, Sawalich now faces a huge deficit for Fenhouse after the last-lap blitz, saying he intends to keep the Tri-County finish in mind the next time he sees Garcia on the road.
