Jagdish Khattar, former managing director of automobile giant Maruti, passed away due to a cardiac arrest on April 26. He was 78 years old. The news was confirmed by Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava.
Khattar was with Maruti Udyog Limited from 1993 to 2007. He joined as a marketing director and became the managing director in 1999. He deserves credit for establishing Maruti as India’s largest car company. After retiring, he started a multi-brand car sales and service network.
Before MUL, Khattar had been an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and had more than 37 years of experience.
RC Bhargava paid his condolences by saying that, “This is a deep personal loss and has come as a big shock. We had worked together for many years. He is someone who has done a lot of good for Maruti”.
