If you’ve seen well-dressed models around you, you might have guessed that it’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW), which runs from September 9-14. NYFW is held twice a year in February and September. New York, as the fashion capital of the United States, hosts one of the world’s “Big Four” fashion weeks, the others being Paris, Milan and London.
Fashion weeks have changed with time; Sleepy is something that shop buyers, the fashion press and some select private customers will witness and hopefully come next season, they have now become the go-to glasses for influencers, celebrities and the most beautiful social media personalities. For small tickets and front row seats. Each NYFW is estimated to add nearly a billion dollars to the city’s economy. In general, the overall contribution of fashion is clearly very high.
Between 2010 and 2015, NYFW was held in pavilions built in Damrosch Park at our very own Lincoln Center. Some community advocates felt it was illegal to use the park for closed events and sued. To make a long story short, NYFW has left Lincoln Center for other venues.
This New Fashion Week is especially celebrating as it is the first full one since the Covid hit.
The unofficial launch of New Fashion Week is an event held this year at the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln on September 7th. He chose the honor to receive the Museum Couture Council (FIT) at the Fashion Institute of Fashion Technology. Fashion Arts Council Awards at Gala Luncheon. The annual fall event benefits MFIT, (Museum at FIT). The presenting sponsor was Nordstrom. This year’s honoree is Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of women’s haute couture, ready-to-wear and accessory collections by Dior.
I was there, camera in hand, to cover the event for West Side Rag. Many famous people were present, some of them can be seen in the picture below. I will continue to post more pictures on Instagram @dentontaylor.
