Recent deals include a $7.3 million Department of Housing and Urban Development guaranteed loan to refinance a 78-bed assisted living community in Montana and a $7 million bridge financing to refinance the debt of a 137-bed assisted living community in New York.
After graduating from Portland State University in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, management and operations, Thurman worked directly for HUD as a multifamily housing representative and data specialist. There he was instrumental in developing the agency’s first streamlined apartments.
“My policy that I took with me when I left HUD was that we’re not financing for the sake of financing. “We do this to ensure people have a decent, clean and safe place to live,” says Thurman, the company’s senior managing director and head of FHA’s healthcare loan product. He likens what he and his team do to providing affordable housing to tenants who need it most.
