If the European Union imposes visa restrictions on Russians, the Kremlin has promised to take tough measures

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow would take serious retaliatory measures if the EU formally introduced visa restrictions on Russian citizens.

Russia is closely following the EU’s decision and the retaliation, symmetric or not, will certainly meet Russia’s interests, Peskov told a local television program on Sunday, without specifying what the retaliation would be.

EU member states’ foreign ministers have agreed to end the bloc’s visa facilitation agreement with Russia, the EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, said on Wednesday.

The decision, which has yet to become legal, will significantly reduce the number of new visas issued to Russian citizens by EU member states, making the visa process more difficult, Xinhua news agency reported.
