Whether it’s from pushy injury lawyers, fraudulent auto insurance agents, or a drunken ex, there’s a way to stop the endless calls and messages. Major carriers and phone manufacturers have upped their game in recent years for unwanted calls and messages, so let’s take a look at how to block them effectively.

What to keep in mind
Before we get into blocking options, there are a few things we need to know:
- If possible, do not answer any calls from unknown numbers. Callers who have anything important can leave a message anyway. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work for businesses or people with interests that involve a lot of calls from unknown numbers.
- Never click on a link or attachment in a spam text message because it can activate malware. If possible, avoid opening it at all.
- Never reply to a spam text message, as this will verify that your number is valid.
- If you are concerned that the call or message may be from a legitimate company, try typing the number into a search engine of your choice. While it’s difficult to verify a scammer’s number, it’s easy to verify that it’s legitimate. If you can’t find anything on a number, be careful and ignore it. We will explain how to limit numbers, but it is important to report unwanted calls and messages. If it’s telemarketing, fraud, or spam, you can report it to the FTC here. You can also add your number to the Do Not Call Registry, although it only works for sales calls from reputable companies. Unfortunately, many organizations and scammers ignore it.
