SIn the year Sustainability, philanthropy and style are at the heart of RoKi Design, a custom scarf brand launched in 2019 by Roslyn Bazzell Mitchell and Kimberly Phipps-Nicol. The dynamic Houston duo is reinventing the concept with the introduction of luxe-topped Sharp creations, base tanks and interchangeable sleeve sets. These two are constantly rethinking their vision of sustainable fashion.

When Basel Mitchell and Phipps-Nicol initially created Rocky Design, they wanted to make it more than just an outlet for their shared fashion interests. They worked to make a difference, one scarf at a time.

Each piece falls under one of three categories: custom-designed scarves designed to honor and benefit charities designed to help those in need and improve communities locally and beyond; Slips designed in collaboration with emerging artists; And a perfect dedication to recycled and scrap materials used for spare parts and household goods.

The latter includes handcrafted items from authentic vintage scarves and upcycled luxury fabrics that inspired RoKi’s latest foundation tank and sleeve collection combination.

The concept is straightforward. Made from 80 percent recycled nylon and 20 percent elastane, the lightweight and deliciously soft base tank allows for endless scarf sleeve options made from authentic luxury scarves or RoKi’s own silk or silk cashmere blend fabrics.

It’s a similar idea to Veronica Beard’s much-loved Dickies jackets. Want a new look? Add a new Dickie line. Want to add some color, movement and panache to a basic black dress or white pants? Slip on a tank sleeve set.

“It’s an evolution of ideas,” says Phipps-Nicol. “Two brains are better than one. And we ask, ‘How do we raise it?’ “

Rocky Designs is donating 20 percent of the net proceeds from the Astros sleeve collection to the Astros Foundation.

Next-level style and durability are achieved with stunning Balmain, Pucci, Hermès, Cartier and Chanel scarves in vibrant colors and signature designs, made to be worn in an instant. Sleeve sets come in sizes, ranging in price from $650 to $950.

Rocky Design also gave the designer piece new life by elevating the idea to one-of-a-kind vests, cycling up and adding additional scarf handles. Depending on the brand and customization details, the wits are an additional cost ranging from $150 to $500.

The sleeve collection is perfect for Houston’s spring and summer temperatures, providing a great way to look polished and stay cool, but there’s another layer of silk in the mix. Basel Mitchell and Phipps-Nicol created vest and sleeve collections inspired by the Houston Astros, benefiting the Diamond Dreams Gala and Safe at Home Lunch and the Astros Foundation. Wearing team spirit on your sleeve has never been easier, and the lightweight look can be worn to games as well.

The designers are donating 20 percent of proceeds from the Astros sleeve collection to The Astros Foundation, the organization’s efforts to support youth sports and education programs, the nation’s military, childhood cancer, domestic violence awareness and homelessness.

In addition to shopping the RoKi Design space, select pieces by Tooties and David Peck are also available.
