TEMPE, Ariz, May 5, 2023 /PRNewswire/ – Economic activity at Hospital subdivision Grown in April. For the 35th consecutive month, the country’s hospital supply executives said recently Hospital ISM® Report on business®.

The report was released today by Nancy LemasterMBA, Chairman, Institute of Supply Management® (ISM®) Hospital Business Survey Committee: “The Hospital PMI® April recorded 55.3 percent, an increase of 1.9 percent from March’s reading of 53.4 percent, marking the 35th consecutive month of growth. Business activity and new orders indices rose compared to March. The employment index remains in growth territory. The Case Mix Index reading of 48 percent was down 5 percentage points from March’s 53 percent. The days outstanding index stood at 48 percent, up 0.5 percent from March’s 47.5 percent. The technology spending index rose 10 percent to 54 percent from March’s 44 percent. The Touchless Orders Index reading of 55.5 percent was an increase of 6.5 percent compared to March’s 49 percent.

LeMaster continued, while the Supplier Delivery Index, which remains in “fast” territory, and the Touch Order Index have returned to expansion, several Business Survey Committee respondents commented that they are still dealing with too many backorders and shortages. Product notes are also mentioned. Inflation remained a concern, with a third of respondents to employment citing layoffs or hiring due to margin pressures, particularly for surgeries. Reason for Supply Cuts and Increases in Acceptance: Survey panelists reported that their facilities have made targeted efforts to improve peak performance days by reducing production levels.

Data and presentation method

Survey responses reflect the change, if any, in the current month compared to the previous month. For each indicator (Business Activity, New Orders, Employment, Supplier Supplies, Inventories, Prices, Prices: Pharmaceuticals, Prices: Supplies, Order Backlog, Revenues, Inventory Sense, Case Mix, Days Payable Outstanding, Technology Costs, and and Intangible Orders ), this report shows the percentage of each response reported and the distribution index. Distribution indices have the characteristics of leading indicators and are convenient summary measures of the direction of change and the extent of change.
