Vermont Business Magazine As legal THC sales begin in October, two licensed cannabis growers in northern Vermont have announced six weekend Vermontijuana cannabis tours starting August 19.
Cannabis tours connect guests with a school bus and transport them to nearby licensed cannabis farms in Northern Vermont to teach them how to grow cannabis outdoors and everything needed to bring legal THC cannabis to market.
Visitors must be over 21, but no cannabis samples are included, said Eli Harrington, the tour’s founder and leader and head cultivator at Vermontijuana Farmstead.
“Guests are coming to see, smell and photograph the plants in their natural outdoor environment. Due to regulations, we can’t bring them into the garden and we can’t sell them our THC – because it’s not fully grown – but people can smoke their own.”
Along with tour partner Ben Wilcox of Off Piste Farm Sutton, Vermontijuana is presenting two separate tour sessions for Off Piste Farm and West Glover (Parker Pie Co.) on Friday night at East Burke’s (Mike’s Tiki Bar). Sunday afternoon for Vermontijuana Farmstead. The tours cover the same information, just at different locations and times of the day.
Wilcox is an experienced cannabis farmer who previously operated Off Piste Farm as an organically certified CBD hemp farm and received a Phase 1 THC cultivation license in 2022 with Harrington. In addition to the tours, Off Piste Farm currently rents out three primitive campsites on its website called “Hipcamp,” two platforms built by Wilcox from wood he collected from the property.
While both Harrington and Wilcox are now state-licensed THC growers preparing to sell their crops this fall, they are open and honest in explaining the tours do not include any THC samples or ‘gifts’ and cannot yet be sold legally. THC products with their own characteristics.
“For now, we sell our eggs, chickens, maple syrup, vegetables, CBD and other small-batch farm products. Now that the industry has taken off, it’s even more important to educate consumers about these amazing plants and try to be responsible stewards of our cannabis industry and benefit local communities and other small businesses. Agritourism has significant benefits for rural communities and we expect cannabis agritourism to have an even more positive impact.
Most tours take place on Fridays and Sundays with a few select Saturdays based on tickets available on the Seven Days Ticketing website. Transportation to and from farms is provided by an independent bus company in the region on a school bus with up to 40 participants on Vermontijuana Farmstead Tours on Sundays and 20 participants on Off-Piste Tours from Friday through Labor Day weekend.
Harrington is a cannabis consultant and presenter at the 2022 International Agritourism Workshop, where he will lead a session on cannabis agritourism opportunities and tours of Vermontijuana and cannabis in Vermont.
