Governor Kathy Hochul joined Congresswoman Grace Meng and Councilwoman Sandra Ung on Tuesday, August 9, for a tour of local businesses in the Bell Boulevard area of Bayside.
Some of their stops include Fresh Yu Shaved Ice, Mochinut for mochi donuts and Shanghai Yu Garden for dinner.
“Small businesses are the backbone of New York’s economy and I am working every day to ensure that our local businesses are recovering and thriving,” said Governor Hochul. “It was great stopping by Congresswoman Meng and Councilwoman Ung at a few local shops and restaurants in Bayside and I look forward to returning soon!”
Hochul’s visit to Bayside comes as she continues her campaign for governor of New York state. In the year She took office as the state’s 57th governor on August 24, 2021. Prior to that, she served as the state’s lieutenant governor since 2015. She became New York State’s first female governor and the first from upstate New York since the 1930s. .
The New York gubernatorial general election will be held on November 8, 2022. After defeating Jumane Williams and Tom Suozzi in the Democratic primary on June 28, Hochul will face Republican candidate Lee Zeldin. Zeldin won his party’s nominations over Rob Astorino, Andrew Giuliani and Harry Wilson.
Hochul took over as governor after her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo, left office amid multiple sexual harassment allegations.
Running with Hochul is Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado. Delgado was the congressman representing upstate New York before being sworn in as the new lieutenant governor on May 25, replacing former Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin, who was indicted on federal bribery charges in 2015.
Zeldin’s lieutenant governor contender is Alison Esposito. Esposito previously worked as a deputy inspector for the NYPD.
