Jennifer Fultz loves to empower Nigerian technology women and entrepreneurs. Our position as Deputy Public Affairs Officer of our Consulate General Lagos gives her many opportunities to do so.
In this brief discussion with Technician, she will take us behind the scenes as she works with the Women’s Entrepreneurship Academy and other programs, and the Consulate will follow up on its plans to encourage technology women and entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
She told me that the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), which was set up to train and equip women in small and medium enterprises in 2019, has trained more than 700 Nigerian women in a six-month program since its inception. Some users describe it as a mini MBA.
A.D. The US State Department, which she founded in 2019, said she founded the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs by providing the skills, networks, and resources needed for high-achieving women around the world to grow their businesses.
“We’ve had about 770 women in the academy since the beginning and they’ve always been alumni,” she said.
“We always support these women and they can be done in different ways and sometimes we give them a little bit,” she said. We sometimes post financial support on social media or in other ways.

It is believed that African women entrepreneurs, both in technology and in other fields, are highly trained and consulted but do not have the financial support. This is echoed by many.
I asked Jennifer Fultz about her idea and she offered me a grant for technology for women and entrepreneurs in Africa in general.
Falls told me that although AWE does not provide the right amount of money, there are many other ways to help women get money from other organizations.
“USAID provides $ 10,000 for business to women applying in Lagos LSDFF provides low interest loans to our women and we have worked with BOI and private sector funders and others. We know that financial support is a big challenge not only in Nigeria but also internationally. What can be done to help these women in particular? ”
In terms of technology, Jennifer Fultz told me that there are many programs run by various US departments. They are working hard to train and equip women with technology.

This, she tells me, is where the academy is at this stage to help women in technology in Nigeria. While they may not be able to spend as much as they would like, this is where we are now, and we take financial support for women seriously. We will continue to do the training but we are constantly thinking about what and how we can connect these women to the financial support and vulnerability opportunities they need.
Although AWE is not for women entrepreneurs in general, including those in technology, she told me that there are special programs designed to encourage women and girls in technology.
“We have a program called Tech Girls and Tech Girls, and we will take two high school students from North and South to Nigeria and send them to the United States. .
For Technology Women, we have a network of those alumni in the country. And, they recently identified women working in major technology companies and organized a counseling program with young graduates who are interested in entering technology. Through this combination, they met people, learned about the work, and learned for a few weeks.
This is what Jennifer Falls, a woman who wants to get into technology, says.
“There are technological women who are astronauts in Nigeria. It was amazing to me when I found out that there are such people in Nigeria. This means that if you are interested in getting into technology, there are already female role models in Nigeria. We make sure we highlight and tell their story to be inspired, so look at a woman who is doing great things now and know that you can do the same.
