Longtime denim mavens G-Star teamed up with slow fashion designer David Laporte for a new capsule collection that aims to fuse the casual nature of denim with the extravagant design techniques of Haute Couture.
Dubbed “Denim After Dark,” the new capsule fuses Laporte’s expressive design ethos with G-Star RAW’s long heritage in denim, resulting in couture couture without skirts and ready-to-wear tops. Constructed with Laporte’s signature platelet style and bow additions, all made from denim, the pieces aim to showcase the fabric’s true versatility and full potential.
The collection’s unique clothing is made from a blend of premium Japanese selvedge denim and tulle, with subtle and intricate details and handcrafted in Italy. Laporte’s signature pleating technique is seen throughout the couture outfit, giving the classic mini dress a stunning look.
Likewise, the collection’s ready-to-wear offering serves as a wearable iteration, combining strong structural design with feminine silhouettes.
To celebrate the show-stopping capsule, the duo enlisted the help of South African photographer Walter Pierre to highlight the endless design possibilities based on denim through an “Ode to nocturnal adventures”.
