From fire protection to fine fashion, the local man accommodates his customers.

Lake Mary, Fla. – I agree, walk into a custom clothing store in Lake Mary, and you’ll know right away that it’s not for everyone.

Your first clue? The mannequins are all dressed in bright colors and bold patterns. There are accessories in spicy orange, green, pink and purple to complement it all.

The man behind the color array is Lawrence Mason.

On the day News 6 visited the store at 154 N. 4th Street to talk about his love of suits, Mason said he downplayed what he was wearing for the interview.

Remember: He was wearing a three-piece suit that fit like a glove.

He said he plans to be the best dressed man in the room wherever he goes.

With a smile, Mason said, “You must have a bit of a lie, we’ll call it, about you.

He had swag – and then some.

He says you should feel a little different the minute you put one of his suits on.

“You have to keep your shoulders back, chest out, head up,” he explained.

He took out colorful clothes as he showed News 6 around his custom clothing store.

He then explained how to mix and match certain colors and patterns.

His active collection of suits, ties, shoes and other accessories are not for the faint of heart.

Men who enter the custom shop walk away with a different attitude.

Mason says there is something about a well-dressed man that elevates him.

“Your confidence level will go up. Your walk will change. Your speech will change. Your attitude will change. The level of respect you get will change,” Mason said.

It’s hard to believe that Mason has only been dressing the people of Central Florida for five years.

Before opening the store, he spent nearly 30 years as a firefighter in Lake Mary and ten years as a reserve officer in Sanford.

You’d think someone in uniform almost every day would be fun to wear when they got the chance. Not Mason.

A uniform is like a suit, he said. And he loved it.

“I like the analogy part of it when I was a firefighter or a police officer,” he explained. “You know, because when you’re dressed as a firefighter, and you’re in your class As or class Bs, you’re right at the top of the scale. You’re sub-military because we’re para-military, that’s where I got my inspiration to become a suit shop.

Now, he’s sharing his inspiration with others. The customers come in knowing that they will not meet anyone wearing the same thing.

Mason said he stays busy year-round. There’s always a special event that men dress to impress—weddings, proms, the Kentucky Derby, you name it—and he has an outfit that turns heads when you walk in the room.

He said he enjoys watching the boys transform into something they never thought they could wear.

Customers say his tailored and tailored clothing and rentals get them in the door, but it’s the service that keeps them coming back.

Mason said it should be so.

“Nobody else I know offers that level of service, and that makes you feel really good. My customers love it. Just come out, stand there, just put your hands out, and we’ll take it from there. When you’re done, you’ll all be together,” he said.

He also said that there is a certain level of confidence, especially for men who are used to wearing only brown, blue and black suits. Mason says he has no problem with these types of outfits, but if you want to take it to the next level, he’s the one to help you do it.
