French business schools run by HEC Paris are the best places to study a master’s degree in finance worldwide, with strong continued demand despite coronavirus disruption, according to the The latest annual FT assessment.

The top five of the nine leading providers of MiF qualifications offered to those with no previous professional experience are in France, as well as four more among the 55 schools included in the 2021 ranking.

HEC Paris ’performance is significantly boosted by the high salaries paid by international alumni hired by global banking and investment recruiters, attracted by France’s competitive elite education system and its remarkable strength in quantitative skills.

“We are delighted to be able to take first place again,” said Eloïc Peyrache, dean of HEC Paris, who was appointed earlier this year. “Our finance department is very strong and we have a global audience. The quality of the students is very good and the number of candidates is increasing ”.

The school has been ranked first in the FT MiF ranking nine times in the last decade, ahead of other leading French business schools this year, including ESCP, Outline, Essec i Edhec, all of them among the country’s elite great schools.

London Business School maintains its leadership position for the fewer MiF courses adapted to those who have already worked in the field before studying, ahead Cambridge University: Judge, Amsterdam Business School i Singapore Management University: Lee Kong Chian.

The FT ranking is heavily weighted to reflect alumni salaries, with HEC Paris graduates reporting average earnings before bonuses of $ 156,583 three years after finishing their degree. Schools are also assessed on factors such as gender diversity and assessments of professional services.

Europe predominates in conducting MiF courses, although three Chinese business schools – Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at SJTU i Beijing Guanghua University – has worked well this year.

American business schools continue to dominate the MBAs, but four also figured in this year’s FT MiF ranking.

Current demand for places, hiring graduates and salaries for alumni has remained the same as in previous years, despite the disruption of the pandemic. The average salary of alumni three years after completing their pre-MiF experience increased in 2021 to $ 85,858, from $ 83,404.

Peyrache said almost 90% of his MiF students were from outside France and that most were recruited by non-French companies, including many London-based employers.
