Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in Germany has partnered with SITA and NEC to offer a biometric passenger processing solution across all terminals.

Under the alliance, SITA will deploy its SmartPaz technology, which will integrate with NEC’s I:Delight digital identity management platform.

The project combines Day of Travel Registration, Star Alliance Biometrics and more biometric hubs under the umbrella of the SITA Smart Path platform.

SITA Europe President Sergio Colella said: “We are delighted to be working with major industry players to bring biometric technology to passengers everywhere.

“With this implementation, Fraport is leading the industry by responding to better passenger demands for greater autonomy and comfort while helping to maximize operational efficiency.”

From the end of this year, passengers at Frankfurt Airport will be able to scan their faces with the airport’s biometric touch technology, from check-in to check-in.

The biometric technology will be accessible to all airlines operating at the airport.

“Since the pandemic, passengers are embracing technology to increase efficiency and take control of their journeys,” said Dr. Pierre-Dominique Prum, member of Fraport’s executive board and executive director of aviation and infrastructure.

“We are excited to be able to transform the experience of all passengers across all terminals and carriers with one simple and intuitive solution.

“We also recognize that SITA and NEC’s innovative technology infrastructure allows us to be future-proof, with the ability to grow with us as industry needs and travel patterns change.

Travelers who don’t want to use the technology can check in at a traditional check-in counter, Fraport added.
