On June 28, 2022, at 7:00 a.m., the team left BMW Cape Town for Herzog Bulevard and arrived at BMW Johannesburg in Bramfontein.
The team traveled a total of 14 hours and 56 minutes, completed on seven legs, and drove a BMW iX battery electric vehicle. The vehicle has an average speed of 94 km / h and Netster Vehicle Defense Company has a speed of 1,404 km / h.
The group has stopped charging six times at charging stations in Worcester, Langsburg, Bewort West, Richmond, Colesburg and Bloemfontein. In total, the vehicle took five hours and thirty-three minutes to charge the battery at the charging station.
“This trip has given some interesting insights into the long-distance, electric-vehicle journey in South Africa,” said Nice Sheridan, a Netster executive.
“Justus, Ernest and his team showed what current electric vehicles can get – in the middle of winter on a 1,700-meter ‘uphill’ off the coast of Johannesburg.
As EV technology and road infrastructure improve to support the vehicles, South African car buyers will begin to consider their electric vehicle options when purchasing the next new car.
“The journey from Cape Town to Jobburg is a measure of the long journey any South African can make,” she said. ”
The data confirms that the trip can now be completed in 20 hours using battery-powered technology, making stop, recharge and driver changes.
