Detroit (FOX 2) – Detroit’s business scene is booming — and it’s not where you’d think you’d find it. Across downtown and downtown, the Livernois/Six Mile/McNichols business district, also known as Live6, competes for prominence.
“It’s really the intersection of a terrible commercial corridor and neighborhoods that’s coming back to life,” said Dr. Geneva Williams.
Detroit’s Pizza Bar, which celebrated its grand opening earlier this year, is one of several businesses enjoying success at Six Mile.
And as Detroit Pizza Bar continues to grow, other businesses plan to open soon in this business district.
The growth at Live6 is not only in retail but also in housing, including new development, all units designated for affordable rent.
“We are building a three-story building with 38 apartments,” said George Nnamdi, managing partner of Sawyer Art Apartments.
The City of Detroit’s Strategic Neighborhood Fund is helping to deliver economic development to these business districts through its nonprofit and private sector partners.
