Announcing the show on her personal account, Chiuri said that she has been working with Mumbai-based Chanakya Atelier for over 20 years and has developed a close friendship with its founders and directors Nehal and Karishma. Stating that the relationship with her artisans is fundamental to her personal and professional growth, she expressed her desire to celebrate India’s rich history with the upcoming show, shedding light on the country’s current role and future potential in the world of fashion.
“It was through this relationship with Chanakya that I was able to engage in conversations with the fashion industry about the artisanal embroidery techniques that still exist in every region of India and the unique skills of Chanakya’s atelier,” Chiuri wrote.
The collection is said to feature a number of traditional Indian motifs, including silk dresses, evening coats and saree-inspired dresses, featuring embroidery by Chanakya Atelier on select pieces.
“I wanted to personally celebrate and showcase the amazing knowledge that India has to offer to the global fashion world in the field of embroidery, the skill of the artisans who continue to work on this craft and the commitment of the founders of Chanakya to preserve India’s history and culture, which is reflected in each embroidery technique.”
Beyond the personal significance of the show for Chiuri, it reflects India’s growing influence as one of the fastest growing nations in the world.
