Denuvo has introduced anti-emulation technology for the Nintendo Switch

Irdeto unveils Denuvo Emulator Protection for Nintendo Switch, a new anti-emulation technology designed to make piracy of games on PC more difficult.

Irdeto, the company behind the controversial Digital Rights Management (DRM) program, announced in a press release that it created Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection to help developers maximize revenue when the game launches. He points out that most Nintendo Switch games can be emulated on PC on day one, and hopes that the new anti-emulation technology will help solve that problem and prevent developers from losing major sales to piracy.

Denuvo says Nintendo Switch’s emulation protection technology integrates seamlessly into the game development toolchain without impacting gameplay, and embeds checks into code to prevent gameplay on emulators. Gamers, however, have expressed dissatisfaction with Denuvo over the years – even when they get the games legally. Denuvo has complained about everything from long loading times to lagging performance in PC games.
