Asa taunts her with the guilt she feels over Bucky’s death, knowing that she didn’t accidentally kill him, but caught him. In Chapter 98, as Asa lay dying on the ground, her last thought was how she wished she could live selfishly. In chapter 102, she remembers her and her mother running away from the devil and rushing to save a cat when she saw an injured cat. In the most pivotal — and intentionally cliche — moment, Asa and her mother are killed when he saves her. In fact, the truth is that Asa ignored the cat and her mother lived.
