Dell is working on the same charging technology that Apple is developing.

Dell is working on a wireless phone charger for your laptop, similar to technology that Apple has been working on for years. The patent was discovered by Patent Apple and was first reported by TechRadar.

Here’s how Dell’s technology works: A small wireless charging clip can be placed in an unused space inside the laptop, on the palm or on the lid. Then you can charge your phone or wearables wirelessly and the laptop will charge.

Dell’s patent number 20220239124 is somewhat similar to Apple’s, although it differs conceptually in that Dell’s charging clip is a detachable accessory. Dell wants to add a magnetic attachment that holds the charging clip to the laptop in a predetermined location. It also needs to be plugged into the USB-C port on the side of the laptop to work.

On the other hand, Apple’s patent shows wireless chargers built into the palm rest. Users can place their phone, Apple Watch and AirPods on the palm and the MacBook will charge them.

There are three patents for Apple’s wireless charging built into the MacBook, the first of which was filed in 2014. The latest MacBook features three charging points: two in the palm rest and one in the middle of the trackpad.

Despite these patents, Apple hasn’t made the technology public yet, and it’s unknown if it’s something Apple is working on. In the year The famous AirPower concept, which was announced in 2017, was shelved in 2019 after Apple failed to fix overheating in the technology.

Like Dell. The company has been tight-lipped about its projects and there is no other indication that they are working on this wireless charging clip.

It’s worth noting that Samsung launched the same technology in 2020 with the Galaxy Book Flex. The laptop had a Qi-charger built into the touchpad and could charge compatible smartphones and headphones wirelessly.
