Personal marketing already seems extremely unique. But a flurry of Instagram posts from a recent event for Couture Circle—a new invitation-only group for fashion-loving minds—reads directly. Of Sweet Home Alabama Proposal scene.
Didn’t follow? A.D. A quick refresher circa 2002: In the rom-com, Patrick Dempsey (in McDreamy) sweeps Reese Whitspoon into Tiffany’s after hours, where a dozen employees stand by as he pops the question. And then pointing to all the engagement rings, he invited her to “pick one.”
Sunday, July 10th at City Center DC at Tiffany & Co. Couture Club’s private event looked a little like this–minus the engagement ring (as far as we know). Dubbed “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” the intimate gathering invited members to sip champagne while viewing new and vintage jewelry. Donning jewelry from her private collection, said to be worn by celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, guests posed for photos before leaving with Tiffany-branded fine bags.
But the phenomenon itself, while unique, was not new to the elite group. Before Breakfast at Tiffany’s, there was a personal shopping experience at Sophie Blake Boutique in Fairfax. And before that, the group’s first official event in May welcomed light bites and bubbles at The Ritz at Tyson Galleria, followed by a private shopping experience and tastings at Gucci where members were gifted bottles of Gucci floral fragrances. .
Other perks from the team’s youthful existence include: exclusive access to Louis Vuitton x Nike; Air Force 1 performed by Virgil Abloh in New York. On the horizon: a “relaxation session” for members of The Virginia Institute, a skin care boutique and facial plastic surgery and aesthetic center.
But it’s not all designer shopping, Couture Circle’s CEO Baille Benemelis knows. Benmelis is well-connected in the fashion and art worlds as the Director of Fashion Group International of Greater Washington, DC and a professional marketing professional. The concept of the club, in fact, she says A.D. The 2018 Rodarte exhibition began as a fundraiser for the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), for which the Couture Club now serves as a “proud benefactor” of the nonprofit group.
The Couture Circle consists of 19 members, and counting—although membership is limited to 25 to begin with. In the mix are stylists, fashion bloggers (DC Fashion Full Barnett Holston for one), marketing and PR professionals, an interior designer, a dermatologist (Dr. Tina Ulster), a photographer, a jewelry designer (ahem, Sophie Blake), retired US Marines. Power Captain, Ms. DC America 2021 (Anchie Way), Deputy Federal Government Relations and more. What do they have in common? An affinity for fashion and art, says Benmelis.
The annual membership fees paid are only for “promises”, according to Benmelis, ten percent of the dues are for NWMA in return, Couture Circle members are promised a variety of special events, as well as other luncheons and access Banquets hosted by luxury brands, private museum tours, sneak peeks at new designer collections, and design-and-greets—plus deals and discounts on local businesses’ products and services, and more.
