Recognizing these changes, the British August issue Vogue It celebrated the LGBTQ+ community, featuring Australian models Jordan Barrett and Aweng Chul alongside actress Cynthia Erivo on the cover.
For that cover story, Erivo says the most important thing is to “give people space to express themselves fully.” These images reflect who the evangelist was rather than who she is today.
Imagine the power, beauty and joy of embracing Evangelista’s perceived imperfections. As before Vogue Australian editor Kirsty Clements followed recent photos of the model, sans scarf and hat, in 2015. Many of us cover up imperfections, dye gray hair, use social media filters, and take comfort in shapewear to feel more confident. It is when we destroy ourselves to become a different identity or a past identity that we embrace the illusion of authenticity.
With the help of groups like Feel Good to help people who have experienced physical changes through illness such as cancer, wigs, make-up and clothing bring happiness and help with their mental health.
These photos brought Evangelista some joy and healing. “All my insecurities are captured in these pictures, so I have to do what I love to do,” she said in an interview.
Hopefully, this encouragement will allow her to take off the hat, undo the tape and see her own beauty, as fans like me will always applaud her and stay in fashion forever.
