FAIRLEA, W.Va. (WVVA) – Besides the food, rides and agricultural exhibits, there’s another side to the West Virginia State Fair in Fairlea, and that’s the arts. In fact, art can be worn as fashion. The fair offers several apparel options, including the official 2022 state fair shirt.
The shirt and other memorabilia will be available in the arts and crafts barn at the fair. After entering the barn, they are surrounded by Appalachian clothing.
“One of our shirts was flying off the rack. said Bernadette Dombrowski, owner of the West Virginia company.
The West Virginia company is set up in the barn. Bernadette Dombrowski is the owner, and this is her first little venture to set up shop at the fair.
Tom Handy, who works with the West Virginia company, says all of the work is done out of their home, and they do most of their work online, except for opportunities like the state fair, where they’re preparing their items to sell. The business is based out of Morgantown.
Another popular shirt this year says “Support Morel” on the front. Morels are a type of mushroom.
“Get it, it’s a morale support kind of thing, and it’s what we call a Molly Moocher in Wyoming County. We all know it’s a morel though,” said David ‘Bugs Stover of Wyoming County.
T-shirts aren’t the only thing popular at the West Virginia company’s booth. There are also postcards, stickers, metal tins for sale and items that fit outside of crocs style shoes.
“First of all, crocs are amazing. I think these shoes are amazing. I love wearing these in rivers,” said Madison Bowers, who is from Randolph County and attends WVU. It’s another way to show your West Virginia pride wherever you go. I think it’s another way to show that you’ve got a little bit of West Virginia wherever you go. I love fFatwood Monster, Pepperoni Rolls, and Appalachia (shoe-sticks). I think that’s good too.
Of course, every company needs an ambassador to model their clothes, and Bowers said she’s happy to help. A large photo of her modeling the outfit was displayed for buyers to see.
“It’s a really big (display). When Bernadette Dombrowski travels to different places, I have people who say you’re me, and just like you, I’m there,” Bowers said.
