(CNN) — A Canadian company has announced that it will cost less than a plane ticket to travel on a 1,000 km/h, all-electric train-style car.

The FluxJet was unveiled at TransPod in its hometown of Toronto last month, with a one-ton scaled-down version directly demonstrating its “plane-rail hybrid” capabilities.

It is based on the same principle as the “Hyperloop” concept made famous by US entrepreneur Elon Musk: Fluxjet moves through a shielded tube-guide at super-fast speeds using technology based on a new field of physics called “curtain flux”.

The pods are magnetically closed and allow the vacuum tubes to travel at high speeds.

The idea is that the train will operate exclusively on the designated network system, stations and key locations in major cities.

The first phase of the $18 billion infrastructure project is planned to connect the Canadian cities of Calgary and Edmonton, 300 kilometers or a three-hour drive away.

FluxJet’s travel speed is three times faster than that of airplanes and high-speed rail, which cuts travel time to 45 minutes.

Earlier this year, Transpod announced it had secured $550 million in funding for the effort so far. The project is currently in the research and development phase, focused on environmental assessment and land acquisition.

Sebastien Gendron, co-founder and CEO of Transpod, told CNN, “The first phase of construction is the Edmonton airport connection, which is scheduled to begin in late 2023 and the full line connecting Calgary to Edmonton in 2027.”

The network will carry up to 54 passengers and 10 tonnes of cargo at a time in Fluxjet vehicles, with trains running every two minutes, according to Transpod’s vision.

According to the company, the new system will significantly reduce highway traffic and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 636,000 tons per year.

He says riding FluxJet will cost 44% less than a plane ticket for the same trip, but he says there’s no word yet on how long people can expect to travel on FluxJet or when other cities might be included in the multibillion-dollar deal. Dollar Network, those predictions seem to include a fair guess at how the next few years will play out.

Transpod says its focus is on world-first designs and technological breakthroughs, and says it is “developing every aspect of a new tube-transportation system, from design to systems engineering, fundamentals, all in-house and with us.” partners.”

The magnetically propelled Fluxjet trains use aerodynamic and propulsion systems designed to minimize friction. Transpod says the experience “feels like accelerating smoothly down a jet runway and then going full speed through the tube guide.”

Gendron told CNN that the group expects FluxJet to carry its first public transit passengers before 2035. And of plans beyond Calgary-Edmonton, “Discussions are underway in Texas to connect Dallas to San Antonio in the United Arab Emirates.” to connect Dubai with Abu Dhabi and Sydney with Brisbane in Australiaā€¯.
