A Macomb County business owner is expected to be arraigned today in a shootout between two men in the parking lot of a family-owned business over the death of his sister last week.
Authorities say Zachary Holston III, 50, will be arraigned in Shelby Township Court this afternoon on a charge of second-degree murder in the 41A District Court. He was being held without bond in the Macomb County Jail.
According to Sterling Heights police, Holston is accused of being involved in an exchange of gunfire with his sister following a heated argument around 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Regal Palace on 19 Mile Road east of Mound Road.
Family identified the victim as Rita Evans of Macomb Township, a mother of two grown children. She used to work at Regal Palace, which her relatives say is a chemical company that manufactures hand soap and other items.
The two exchanged multiple shots from the side of the building, but Evans was the only one hit, police said. Holston, of Farmington, was at the scene after the shooting and cooperated with investigators, police said.
The siblings each owned a gun because of their connection to the business.
According to Michigan corporation records, Holston is listed as Regal Palace’s resident agent. The company was founded in December 2008, records show.
