Michael Fisher has worked with Kieran Culkin, Oscar Isaac, Jake Gyllenhaal and Benedict Cumberbatch during their respective hosting seasons with The Client. Saturday Night Live In the 2021-22 season, and every time the star stylist wanted to have one cast member, Bowen Young, the long-running series, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards on Monday night.
“I said OK, I was a fan-girl on the side of the stage. [at 30 Rock] Every time,” says Fisher The Hollywood Reporter Only. “He’s very smart, and you can tell he likes to have fun with fashion.” Fisher finally sent a direct message to Yang on his Instagram account earlier this year, saying he wanted to work with the actor during a press conference. Island of fire, Hulu’s queer romantic comedy, was released in June. That did the trick, and Young’s search for the 2022 Emmys is the latest in a recently formed alliance.
When Young’s name was among the Emmy nominations announced in mid-July, he and Fisher immediately began discussions to seek out the event. “He sent over some ideas he had in mind, and so did I,” says Fisher. “I love that his palette ranges from the most avant-garde to the most classic options – the latter with a twist. We always seem to land in the middle.”
To the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, Young wore a blue-black tuxedo by Milan-based Etro, a semi-tailored wool and silk jacquard jacket with a decorative pattern of flowers and mythical animals, paired with matching pants. Jacquard fabric, minus the embroidery.
An off-white tuxedo shirt with a quilted flat and navy satin bow tie by Swedish brand Eaton finished off the outfit. “The shirt is almost a tea-stained, soft buttery yellow, which I love because it brings out the embroidery,” says Fisher. “Also, I really like a covered patch because I hate seeing buttons on a tuxedo look.”
Black patent tuxedo shoes by Christian Louboutin — “a style with a little more attitude than the typical tuxedo shoe,” Fisher added — were also confirmed, while decisions were still being made about Young’s jewelry and watch as of Sunday night. “I know we’re not going to do a sweater, because it’s just too much with the jacket embroidery,” says Fisher. Bowen wears jewelry every day and loves jade and onyx pieces. There will be earrings, then we’re thinking a lot of great diamond rings from Or & Elle and Anne Sisteron. We like to leave the jewelry for the day because jewelry should always be a reflection of your current mood. The duo narrowed the timepiece selection down to two, wearing a Vacheron Constantin.
If a client is about fashion adventure, is the styling experience easy? “Adventurous is too small a word to describe Bowen,” says Fisher. “I can’t imagine what it takes to do the job and be a comedian and an actor and a writer, and he wants it to be as serious and bold and fun as you see in it. He likes young and fresh designers like Mr. Saturday and Zankov [footwear designer] Ciro, but he also appreciates classics like Etro, Briony and Paul Smith. My job is to find pieces that elevate him and the artist and make him feel like himself. The biggest challenge for me is not finding clothes that fit the body; It is the clothes that suit the personality and shine the personality.”
Better yet, working with Young turned out to be everything Fisher had hoped it would be during his time on the sidelines. Saturday Night Live exercises. He added: “He was a dream client.
