This Bengali startup transforms water from waste disposal plants (STPs) into high-quality drinking water for household purposes, central air conditioning for commercial buildings and for drinking.
Every day, Bengalru produces about 1,400 million gallons of wastewater, the best of which ends in sewers and lakes. According to an in-depth study by Bengalru Boson White Water, apartment buildings use only 20% of STP’s wastewater, and the remaining 80% goes to sewers.

This is a common problem in cities in India. For a country that has been facing severe water shortages year after year, sewage has the potential to address water shortages in our cities.
Boston White Water, a water service company, was set up to change the way industries, IT parks, shopping malls and apartment communities recycle their wastewater. The system offers an 11-step filtration process and is equipped with IoT to monitor water quality and volume in real time as well as allow remote access with minimal manual intervention.
Tech Panda Vicas Brahmavar, founder of Boston, started talking to White Water about the motivation behind the noble cause.

“In India, water management in our cities depends on the amount of rain that comes to the city. We measure the amount of water in our dams and then plan our water distribution. But when there is unstable rain, it is difficult to be completely dependent on rainwater for our needs. ”
“Boss White Water was born out of a desire to create sustainable water infrastructure for our cities,” he said.
What do they do
The Boson WaterWater system input is STP treated water, which meets the requirements for recycling and washing. Input STP treated water is treated in the following stages.
- Four Preliminary Steps to Eliminate Smell, Color, Suspended Ingredients, Ambiguity. All stages have pressure and input water quality control devices.
- Special coating-based treatment (two steps) restores each drop of water with reversible monitoring method.
- Post-treatment (three stages) is designed only for the client’s water quality needs. For example, malls may need water to reuse a cooling tower, or industries may use it for laundry or any other water quality standard.
- The system has a system of UV and ozone levels in the post-treatment stages.
“At the end of all stages, the water is free of contaminants. E. coli, coliforms, heavy metals, high strength, pesticides, herbicides have all been removed, and the water is clear and potable. NABL-certified laboratory reports indicate that the water is safe to drink. They point, ”says Brahmavar.

Apartment communities
Residential apartments generate 30,000-3,00,000 liters of wastewater per day. According to the KSPCB (Karnataka State Pollution Control Board), every apartment in Bengalu has an obligation to follow a ‘zero liquid discharge’ policy, which means that unfiltered water cannot be pumped into water bodies.
However, most apartments cannot comply with this policy because they have no means of discharging excess water.
To address this problem, the Boston White Water system converts unused STP water into high-quality drinking water, and then transports it to nearby industries via the Boston White Water Tanker Network.
This will ensure that the apartments are legally compliant and that they will be able to get a monthly rent for the Boston White Water plant, and that they will be able to manage the area efficiently without polluting the wastewater.
IT parks, shopping malls and other businesses
Although most commercial buildings handle wastewater at home, due to the efficiency of wastewater treatment plants, air conditioning and cooling towers rely on water tanks for their water needs.

Origin and inspiration.
Bhonmavar, who started the Boston White Water idea, lived in London before returning to India in 2008.
“On my way to work in London, I walked to the Tower Bridge almost every day for lunch. I was surprised to find that there was no smell from the Thames. It was in complete opposition to some of our lakes in Bengalru. ”
“I have always wanted to return to my homeland and do something about water infrastructure,” he said.
Brahmavar decided to return to Bengalru and work to create sustainable sewage infrastructure for Indian cities. In his early years, he focused on non-chemical water treatment. A.D. In 2014, he decided to take action and make a big impact by focusing on water recovery.
“We understand that there are a lot of people working on STPs. But the purpose of establishing STP is to comply with government regulations, not to save water,” he recalls.
A study of 200 apartments found that 20% of STP bottled water can actually be reused for gardening. The remaining 80% is sent to the sewer, because there is no way to use excess water.

“I started with Boston White Water with my co-founder, Goutaman Desking, who loves to save water. “We have both left our comfort zone and started Boston White Water to promote water recovery by introducing ioti-based data analysis and forecasting.”
The system is remotely controlled by Goutman’s efforts and innovations. Remote monitoring and IOT allow real-time information on water quality and quantity to be displayed from the office and allow staff to be hired on demand rather than on-site.
Initial tests
One of the first challenges for a beginner was to persuade the apartments to use recycled water for domestic use.
“When we use the term ‘recycled water’, most people do not think about recycling. They always think that recycled water is for secondary use. That is what we plan to change. We have turned recycled water into ‘white water’. We are pleased to learn that many civic institutions now use the term ‘white water’, says Brahmavar.
“We have acquired more than 400 apartments to raise awareness and exchange views on the possibility of converting any wastewater into high quality drinking water. We have shown them live laboratory reports from our plant, ”he added.
Despite ample evidence and examples, an apartment did not agree to reuse the water for domestic use.

“We had a client who suggested that re-drinking water was safe only in Singapore because they did not trust Indian technologies and Indian companies. It was not easy to change their mindset,” he recalls.
“Instead, we decided to keep a close eye on the industry. We have found a solution that will benefit both the apartments and the industry,” he added.
Most industries rely on water tanks for their fresh water needs. Although some have treated their sewers, they have not been able to obtain high-quality water due to the efficiency of sewage treatment plants.
“We have created a system that allows industries to buy treated high quality wastewater from us through apartments that currently discharge 80% of the wastewater.”
Another problem is the local water tanks.
“Many of us were not happy with the recycling of wastewater, because most of the apartments are based on water tanks to dispose of unused wastewater today. We faced strong opposition from them. We are in the process of making our water distribution system an industry, which will be a win-win for both tanks.
History of development
Boss WhiteWater currently operates under the names of Brigade Orion Mall, RMZ Corp, Soul Space Arena, Vakil Housing and Development Corporation and many more. Startup recently raised US $ 4.58K with funding from the Angel Angel Network of India.
Since 2020, the installed capacity of the system is about 34 crores per liter of water. Brahmavar said it will save 50 kr a liter of water earlier this year.

Future plans
In this financial year, Boss White Water wants to save up to 50 crore liters of water and install the system in ten large apartments. It also wants to set up similar systems in IT parks and shopping malls. He wants to go to Hyderabad and Chennai next fiscal year and focus on similar markets.
