Belpre – The new Belpre Market Square is coming together as businesses begin to open and others take shape.
Following the opening of Family Tree’s Tooth and the recent opening of the Las Trancas restaurant, local officials feel the new plaza is beginning to show its potential to the community.
For more than a year, construction crews have been working on renovating the former Washington Square Shopping Center building on Washington Boulevard into a new commercial center in downtown Belpre.
“It’s a fantastic upgrade.” Belpre Chamber of Commerce President Karen Waller said. “There is a lot of excitement in the city for this center.
“It’s a great combination of food and specialty shops.”

Waller said the square is geographically in the center of the city.
A sign was recently placed in front of the plaza announcing the presence of Memorial Health System at the center.
Jennifer Offenberger, Memorial Health System’s associate vice president of service excellence, said Waller will set up a material warehouse in the center, noting that it will go in the former Peddler’s Crossing.
“Our material warehouse serves as a place to supply materials, supplies and other items for our health system.” Offenberger said. “As we continue to grow as a regional health system, we need to expand our space to meet the demand for our products.
“We’re also looking for a more centralized location at all of our locations — Athens, Belpre, Marietta, Sistersville, Parkersburg. An opportunity arose at the Square, and we’re excited to move operations there by the end of the year.” She said.

Memorial Health System is building its Belpre outpatient clinic in another part of the plaza, which recently opened.
“While we are looking for additional provider space on the Belper campus, we also want to maintain the convenience of medical care for patients in that region.” Offenberger said. “A location in the Plaza makes it a great convenience and also puts us closer to the Belpre campus.”
Construction is also underway at the new Roseland Coffee Bar location being built at the end of the Holiday Hair/H&R Block building. The space includes a drive-through window.
In a joint statement, the founders and co-owners were father and son Craig Yost and Colin Yost “He was very happy.” About opening their second location in Belper. They opened their first location in Ballow during the height of the covid pandemic.
“We’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to bring our business to Belpre over the past two years.” Joseph’s statement said. “We reached an opportunity to expand.

“The new mall will be the centerpiece of Belper and we couldn’t be more excited to be involved.”
Yost said Roseland strives to be more than just a coffee shop.
“We’re not just a bar.” they said. “We are a community-oriented business, working to grow and improve the environment.
We serve coffee.
Belpre’s location is currently in the process of finishing the drywall and cleaning the floors, the statement said. Next, the work ends on the outside. Then there will be painting, decorating, installation of equipment and training of workers.

“We hope to be open in the fall, maybe late November if there are no delays.” There are jokes.
The Belpre location will have the same full menu as the Barlow location, including all hot, iced, blended coffee drinks, teas, lemonade and signature energy drinks.
“We have many options for flavors: fruit flavor and coffee flavor.” There are jokes. “Also we will have different scales and we will hold and drink.
“We look forward to seeing everyone and getting back involved with the Belpre community.”
Wings etc occupy the space in front of the square from the teeth of the family tree down.
Kyle and Kristen Hack and Chad and Missy Hack opened their first location in Marietta seven years ago. They have a second location in Caldwell and Belpre will be their third location in the area.
They recently posted pictures on their Facebook page of Belprin’s location and the work being done.
Progress is going well, Kyle Hack said.
Today, like any other business in the construction industry, they had to deal with supply chain issues.
Hook is looking at opening late this year or early next year. It depends on how the construction will be done and when the materials will arrive.
“We want to finish soon.” he said.
The place offers their full Wings Etc menu that includes chicken wings with a variety of sauces, sandwiches, wraps, salads, various appetizers and more. They have 20 beers on tap and rotate some seasonal and draft beers regularly. They also carry 40 different beers by the bottle.
The place offers televisions and more inside.
“It’s going to be a great menu, great food, the whole atmosphere of Wings.” Huck said.
They also want to build a patio for outdoor dining in this space as well.
The organizers of the project came to the owners and worked with them to prepare a place.
“They’ve worked hard to find a place that’s nice and comfortable.” Huck said. “Belpre was a good place for us.”
Huck finds the early success of Las Trancas encouraging and is looking forward to opening their place.
“I think Belpre is a great place and there needs to be more restaurants there.” he said. “We think Wings Etc will fill a need in the community and give people another great place to eat.”
A UPS store is also planned for the former Inspire III location.
Bob Rauch, a local Belpre businessman, is working to put a UPS store in the plaza.
He is currently working on getting the lease together and hopes to complete it in the next week or so. Once it is completed, they will start the work to transform the place into a store.
“It’s a good size and gives us plenty of room for a UPS store.” Rauch said of the 2,200-square-foot room.
Rauch said the location fits with business expansion in the area and Memorial Health System’s Belpre campus in Belpre.
In order to do this, he found that he needed to send something out of the area. He found out that others had the same problem.
“It was something to be desired.” Rauch said. “That sounds good.”
UPS stores do more than just ship packages. They have copy and fax services, mailboxes, computer services, notebooks on staff and more. The location is expected to be open seven days a week.
Rauch is hoping they can be ready to open this year for the Christmas season.
“We are working to find all the necessary steps to reopen UPS.” he said.
He also plans to hire locally. The manager is local and has ties to Belpre.
“It’s important that we connect with local people who support the local community.” Rauch said. “We like to have familiar faces and it works better that way.”
Las Trancas has seen good business and many are looking forward to what the plaza will bring, Waller said.
“A lot of people are having a good night there.” She talked about Las Trancas.
Waller said the developers have always been respectful of the local community and a great partner to work with. Rauch credits the developer for working with him to get the UPS store in the plaza.
The developers have previously talked about continuing to make improvements to the front end.
Waller credits them with being able to keep other established businesses there, such as Dragon House Chinese Restaurant, Unicorn Wine Guild, Holiday Hair, H&R Block and the Belpre Aquarium.
“We’re glad you put them there.” Waller said. “This is a win for everyone.”
The plaza is constantly busy with people coming and going as businesses move in and out.
“He screams all day.” Waller said.
