ATU welcomes students home on activity day

As a third-year Arkansas Tech University student, Madison Herring’s fall 2022 entry date marks her second homecoming.

Herring, a Whitehall print journalism major who was among those returning to ATU on Saturday, Aug. 13, said he was happy and excited to be back. “Obviously, there will be a little homesickness. start. Doing it for the third time is very interesting. I am very happy to be back.”

As a freshman at ATU, Kodiak Forrest said he feels he has found the university that will help him take the next step in his life.

“Arkansas Tech and (the University of Arkansas at) Fayetteville and Arkansas Tech felt like they could fit my needs better,” said Forst, a mechanical engineering major from Sherwood. “I’m anxious to go in and see my room. I know it’s stressful for a lot of people today, but it seems so composed and stress-free so far.

Forst and other new students will participate in TechConnect orientation through Tuesday, August 16.

Many Welcome Week events, including the ATU Engagement Fair, are open to all Arkansas Tech students on Monday, August 15, at West El Paso Street and North El Paso Street in Russellville.

All the activities before the first day of class on Wednesday 17. August give Forst a head start on one of his priorities this year.

“I’m really looking forward to making new friends,” Forst said. “It will be fun to meet people with similar interests and make some connections.”

Herring says her biggest dream is to move to a big city and write for a magazine. In the meantime, she’s focused on getting the most out of the 2022-23 academic year at ATU.

“I started looking at what I wanted to do with my degree after graduation,” Herring said. “I go into a lot of my majors in my major. I also have a lot of opportunities with my sorority Delta Zeta, so I’m happy to be involved in that as well.
