I’ve been struggling with occasional breakouts for as long as I can remember. This time I chose to treat my numerous zits with products from COSRX, one of the most well-known Korean skin care brands. For my first trial of COSRX, I selected the Full Fit Propolis Synergy Toner and Pure Fit Cica Cream to see how this duo fares on my troubled skin after three weeks of use.
Propolis has been one of my favorite anti-acne ingredients since the very beginning of my skin care journey. Made by bees to build hives, the resin-like substance consists of tree sap and beeswax. Propolis is packed with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, making this ingredient a lifesaver for those with troubled skin. Propolis is effective in treating breakouts due to its ability to heal wounds and decrease inflammation, while making scars and pigmentation less noticeable for a more even skin tone. The Full Fit Propolis Toner also contains cassia angustifolia seed extract, an ingredient rich in flavonoids that protect skin from environmental stressors and pollutants.
For moisturizer, I picked the Pure Fit Cica Cream to complement the toner and to harness the soothing capabilities of cica to calm inflamed areas. Cica, or centella asiatica, is rich in fatty acids, amino acids, beta-carotene and vitamins, and known to repair damaged skin and calm irritation. The Pure Fit Cica Cream contains Cica-7 Complex made of seven potent cica ingredients including centella asiatica extract, centella asiatica leaf extract, centella asiatica root extract, asiaticoside, madecassic acid, asiatic acid and madecassoside. Additional benefits of cica ingredients include reducing the appearance of wrinkles, brightening and hydration.
Full Fit Propolis Synergy Toner
Experience: Unlike many other honey or propolis products I’ve tried, this toner surprisingly comes in a watery, runny texture that doesn’t feel sticky or slimy. The unscented formula is perfect for those who have sensitive skin or prefer skin care without fragrance. Absorbing immediately with no residue, this toner is convenient to use as it let me proceed to the next step of skin care routine right away.
Result: My skin felt hydrated and calm immediately after application. Pain in my inflamed acne was swiftly alleviated, and the toner left a glassy skin finish after use. Apart from the calming and anti-inflammatory effects, the toner has great hydrating powers too, making it a great multifunctional skin care staple.
Pure Fit Cica Cream
Experience: This cream in a dense white texture glides perfectly on skin thanks to the formula’s slight oiliness. The tube container’s small nozzle prevents squeezing out too much product during use. The scentless formula is pleasant to use, and Its centella asiatica derivatives and plant-based oils provide rapid redness relief and hydration.
Result: Although the cream’s oiliness enabled easy application and prevented unnecessary tugging on skin, it left an oily film – a very thin one but with a noticeable after-feel. The cream’s calming effect, however, made me look past the oily finish (I blotted it away with tissue). Shortly after I started using the COSRX Pure Fit Cica Cream, my face got heavily sunburnt. This cream helped minimize redness in just a couple of days, ensuring its permanent spot in my skin care shelf.
Verdict
Both COSRX products are great for sensitive and irritated skin as the unscented formulas are unlikely to further aggravate skin. The rapid and visible improvements on my skin after three weeks of use have made these products irreplaceable staples in my bathroom shelf.
I plan to repurchase the Full Fit Propolis Synergy Toner Thanks to its ability to quickly calm inflamed and painful acne, while leaving my skin with a glassy, ethereal finish (an effect I did not know it was capable of delivering). With hydrating ingredients like cassia angustifolia seed extract, this toner boosts any skin care routine by providing an additional layer of moisture. The benefits of the Pure Fit Cica Cream – particularly how fast it alleviates redness – outweigh its only disadvantage of leaving an oily finish.
Overall, my three-week trial made me understand why COSRX has a global cult following as the brand’s products are comfortable to use and effective in treating different skin concerns. COSRX’s sleek minimalistic packaging design also adds an aesthetically pleasing element to your skin care routine.
